I use vim for editing Ruby (gvim, usually), and I get this odd behavior: I 
have the exact same RPM installed on both my home and my work computers, and 
(mostly) the same .vimrc... but the home machine vim does Ruby syntax 
beautifully, with proper indenting, unindenting, and so on; the work machine 
doesn't do indenting properly.  Bizarre.  But, when it works, the Ruby mode 
for vim is gorgeous.

I thought jedit did a good job with Ruby out of the box.  It is just a tad 
too slow for me, which is the same reason why I don't use emacs any more.
