Subject: Using Rails, Anyway to build ActiveRecord to Point at Hash?

I would like to build my own "business object" and have Rails point at 
it as a record.  That is, I want to implement my own 
insert,update,delete,select methods.  I find a very unsatisfying 
discussion at http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/Howtos How to use 
rails without a database.

Does anyone know of an example I could point at?  One that preferrably 
implements using mysql.  I'm new to Ruby so the more basic the better.
