[ruby-talk:14978] Includes in classes

First of all, pardon me for my painful newbie questions in advance.  I am running ruby from the 1.6.2 windows install on my Win2000 box. 

1.  Are there plans to create binaries for the current (1.6.3) and future versions?  Anything in particular getting in the way of that other than everyone involved having day jobs?

2.  I ran into the stackdump error that makes eruby.exe fails.  A couple of people posted the problem a few months back, but I didn't see any responses.  In any case, I did some hacking and got erb.rb to work, but the hacking left me confused - someone please clue me in.  I wanted to tinker with embeds, so I tried to run ERb through irb and ran into quite a few of the following type of error:

irb(main):001:0> require 'erb/erb'
NameError: undefined method `module_function' for ERb:Class
/cygdrive/e/ruby/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.6/erb/erb.rb:17
(irb):1:in `require'
(irb):1:in `irb_binding'

I went to the source that was failing (there were several module_function entries within classes), it looked like this:

class ERb
  Revision = '$Date: 2000/04/23 15:09:10 $'

  def version
    "erb.rb [1.2.2 #{ERb::Revision.split[1]}]"
  end
  module_function :version


So, I changed version to a class method, ERb.version, and commented out the module_function line.  After this, everything worked fine.  Are you supposed to be able to use module_function from a Class definition? (I noticed module_function worked fine within a Module definition.)  Assuming it is legal, why did it fail in my environment?
