Subject: ri doesn't go on my SuSE workstation

I am following the example in the pickaxe book on page 8 and it goes like this:

xeno@linux:~> ri GC
No ri documentation found in:
     /usr/share/ri/1.8/system
     /usr/share/ri/1.8/site
     /home/xeno/.rdoc

Was rdoc run to create documentation?

Please excuse me if the answer should be obvious, but I'm not seeing it.
