I just experienced the a similar error on Sun compiling fox-tools:

  ld: fatal: relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable sections
  collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
  *** Error code 1
  make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `libFOX-1.2.la'
  Current working directory /tmp/fox-1.2.16/src
  *** Error code 1
  make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `all-recursive'

Any ideas?
