[phil@kawa i686-linux]$ pwd
/usr/local/lib/ruby/1.6/i686-linux
[phil@kawa i686-linux]$ ldd xmlparser.so
        libexpat.so.0 => not found
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40011000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000)

(note: i tried reinstalling xmlparser with no parameters to extconf.rb,
and the install directory changed to /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.5/i686-linux
otherwise, no change, still didn't work.)

hmmm. still trying to figure it out.
