As far as I can see, no one tried YARV. I didn't run these tests myself, 
they are the current benchmarks from the YARV-devel list. And yes, the 
numbers different, but you get the picture: 

whileloop:
i = 0
while i<10000000
  i+=1
end

ruby 18.780000   0.050000  18.830000 ( 18.944069)
