Subject: redirect error messages

I am working on a ruby cgi script on a host that refuses to give me ssh 
access.  Therefore I am developing locally and then uploading blindly.  
I am getting some errors after upload that the host seems to think are 
my fault but all that I can get access to for debugging is the cryptic 
apache error log that just tells me

Premature end of script headers

The script runs on my mac.   I don't know how they have their servers setup(RedHat) so I can't emulate the problem.  
I would like to be able to see what exactly my script is giving as error output but can't seem to find out how I redirect the error stream to a log file I would setup on the server.

Anyone care to help me figure this out before I have to cancel my hosting service and waste time moving the domain?
