Sorry to push this topic even further off course, but this is near and dear to me, and it certainly affects everyone on this list, even those living outside the U.S. If you are concerned about the abuse of software patents, there is some encouraging activity these days. Both the Electronic Frontier Foundation (http://www.eff.org/patent), and the Public Patent Foundation (http://www.pubpat.org) are researching and persuing court cases in the U.S. to challenge bad patents.
