There isn't a method, but you can easily get it:

irb(main):007:0> str = "abc"
"abc"
irb(main):008:0> str[0]
97
irb(main):009:0> str[1]
98
irb(main):010:0> str[2]
99

or

irb(main):011:0> ?a
97
irb(main):012:0> ?b
98
irb(main):013:0> ?c
99
