quite a bit.  dirwatch maintains a database mirror of a directory's content=
s.
the contents are compared against the database each time dirwatch is run an=

certain configurable actions taken.  note that it does not run constantly a=
nd,
since it maintains state, be cron'd at certain itervals.  it should be nfs
clean (including running on the same directory using the same log file from
different hosts simoultaneously).  the actions can be configured to easily
handle directories containing several hundred thousand files.  because of i=
t's
nature (stateful and periodic) you also detect 'existing' files using it to
implement a kind of smart tmpwatch.

not yet - i haven't exactly desided how to handle dependancies and am think=

of doing something like

   file dirwatch/lib/arrayfields.rb

   rescue LoadError
     (inline arrayfields)
   end

so that the user need download only one package...  also there are some
changes on the horzion to sqlite that i'm not sure how to handle...  also i=
t's
quite young (though we are using in production like all of our 'experimenta=
l'
software ;-))
