Not AFAIK.  You can do

content = IO.readlines(file).each {|l| l.chomp!}

or (more efficient)

content = File.open(file) {|io| io.inject([]) {|ar,line| line.chomp!; ar <<
line} }

But I guess you figured that yourself already.
