I'm using Webrick and the response time is fairly quick. What type of hw/sf platform are you using? If you want to experiance some *real* pain try installing BEA Weblogic 8.0 on your system. It takes almost 5 minutes to start the workshop app on my home system (1.2 GHz) ....
