You also might consider using Objective-C: easy to link into C programs (since you can expose a standard C API, and call C libraries natively), object model similar to Ruby (message-based method invocations, runtime-extensible classes, etc.), and a complier that works on Windows, Linux, OS X, and many other platforms.
