just one thing: I'm not sure if this is just a sample or is closely
related to the behaviour of the gem system, but should'nt it be:

Gem::Platform::WIN32::(MS|DJGPP|MINGW|LCC|WHATEVER) ? 

different compiling toolchain are things to take in consideration..
