The filesize difference between ruby-1.8.1.tar.gz and the latest stable 
snapshot is quite substantial.

ruby-1.8.1.tar.gz  	2610 KB  	12/24/2003  	12:00:00 AM
snapshot.tar.gz 	3435 KB 	7/9/2004 	7:00:00 PM

I think a more user-friendly Changelog that summarizes the major changes 
between version would be greatly appreciated by many folks.

For example, Perl has the following as its changelog:
