Which application do you mention about, Rake?

Including this module may work, instead of FileUtils:

  module Tilde
    module_function
    def rm_rf(*args)
      args.collect!{|n|File.expand_path(n) rescue break}
      FileUtils.rm_rf(*args)
    end
  end
