Well, my simple question sparked a lot of discussion :-).  I should
have realised, of course, that the newlines are effectively replacing
statement separators like semicolon.  Obviously, I was half asleep
when I wrote that post!

I do this too.  It's particularly interesting, since I generally use
absolutely no other abbreviations and have argued the logic for that
many times with other people :-).
