Initial Comment:
Perhaps I'm missing something, but wouldn't it be handy to have something like this?

  def Date.from_time(time)
    Date.civil(time.year, time.month, time.day)
  end

I know I would find it useful for code like this:

  if Date.from_time(someday) < Date.from_time(anotherday)

Where I want to compare two dates rather than two times.
