IIRC, they're the fundamental locking primitive on the JVM, rather than mutexes. A monitor is essentially a collection of procedures (generally with some shared state/resources/variables) protected by a mutex; entering one of the procedures in a monitor automatically acquires that lock; exiting such a procedure releases it. -mental --=-a57T6Ro3Fc2g/4SHjX/r Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBFT337SuZBmZzm14ERAlZOAKC7Dokk8leQ4nbRRSRIYmLTnhFyagCgwSC9 0AgBxOLARmVQvojLfXFwHyM= =A2ZN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-a57T6Ro3Fc2g/4SHjX/r--
