Issue #12772 has been updated by Adam Wolk. Running `RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec /usr/bin/rake assets:clean` reliably leads to a segmentation fault. The target machine is a virtualbox 64 bit Debian instance. I'm proceeding to re-test on a new vm but without backports enabled.
