Perhaps a naive question, but ...

Why are in-block local variables (NODE_DVAR) implemented differently
than normal local variables (NODE_LVAR). ie, why are they looked up
in a linked list (ruby_dyna_vars) rather than as an fixed offset into an
array (as with ruby_scope->local_vars[])?
Isn't the nesting of blocks and the set of in-block locals known
statically at "compile time"? What makes them more "dynamic"?
