NekoVM is very fast, and it will continue to improve. I'm planing to 
rewrite the GC and add JIT. Since of course benchmarks depends on your 
needs, you might want to compare small samples of Ruby or other language 
and try to express them in Neko as well to check differences.

The Neko compiler is available as a library so it's possible to have 
interpretive mode (actually you can run  nekovm -console to have a 
toplevel/interactive mode).
