In Ruby there really isn't such a thing per se. Either it is nil or it is false, or it is not (and thus true). The only really general purpose use I found for #foo! is def foo!(*arg) return @foo if arg.empty? @foo = arg[0] self end Usable as chainable setter method. But there is no general precedence for this. T.
