The offending are of the makefile is: INSTALL = copy > nul INSTALL_PROG = $(INSTALL) -m 0755 INSTALL_DATA = $(INSTALL) -m 0644 COPY = copy > nul This results in the following copy command when installing the OpenSSL extension: copy > nul -m 0755 openssl.so E:/Dev/RubyDev/rubyinstaller/cvs-repo/installer-win/stable/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/i386-msvcr71 This is not a valid copy command under native (non-cygwin) windows, and the make process terminates with a fatal error. In 1.8.2 this part of the makefile looked like this: INSTALL_PROG = $(RUBY) -run -e install -- -vpm 0755 INSTALL_DATA = $(RUBY) -run -e install -- -vpm 0644 I can build 1.8.2 without any problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: http://rubyforge.org/tracker/?func=detail&atid=1698&aid=2472&group_id=426
