Hmm...this may be more difficult than I thought. Consider relative paths: File.join(File.split("foo")) # "./foo" Since "foo" and "./foo" are equivalent, I can't really complain here. Making this work so that it returned the orignal "foo" instead of "./foo" is too much work for too little gain I think. I think I'll just drop it (on the *nix side, anyway), and let folks use Pathname if they really want hardcore pathname handling. Regards, Dan
