ruby-1.8.3 preview1 - failure: cygwin.

From: Hugh Sasse <hgs@...>
Date: 2005-05-12 22:20:44 UTC
List: ruby-core #4932
I've just tried to build the preview and got:

compiling bigdecimal
./ext/extmk.rb:167: warning: Insecure world writable dir /usr/X11R6/bin, mode 04
0777
make[1]: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings/HGS/My Documents
/My Programs/ruby-1.8.3/ruby-1.8.3/ext/bigdecimal'
mkdir -p ../../.ext/i386-cygwin
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `and', needed by `bigdecimal.o'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings/HGS/My Documents/
My Programs/ruby-1.8.3/ruby-1.8.3/ext/bigdecimal'
make: *** [all] Error 1

This appears to be due to incorrect quoting in the makefile -- that
is to say,

topdir = ../..
hdrdir = /cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings/HGS/My Documents/My Programs/ruby-1.
8.3/ruby-1.8.3
VPATH = $(srcdir):$(topdir):$(hdrdir)

from ruby-1.8.3/etc/bigdecimal/Makefile

Maybe I'm expected to keep this entirely withing the unix-like
hierarchy, but other things like vim don't seem to expect that?

I'm not sure how to fix this so that the fix propagates effectively.

Hope this report helps.

         Hugh
