My first thought is "no way". What happens in the following case? x = [1] x[0].replace(-1) Is x == [-1]? Without calling []=? I suggest that #replace works not only on Enumerables but on any Object. What happen= s in the following case?

=A0 x =3D [1]
=A0 x[0].replace(-1)
Is x =3D=3D [-1]? Without calling []=3D?

I suggest that #replace works not only on Enumerables but on any Object. It= can make use the same object in different places more consistent.
