As Aaron mentioned, did you get a chance to try the ruby_1_9_3 branch?
Now that Ruby 1.9.3-p194 is out, maybe it's easier to give that a try.
Again, if we're lucky we it's the same issue we encountered with
Nokogiri and fixed in 1.9.3-p194.

I'm not sure if this redmine is configured emails users directly, but
subscribing to the ruby-core list works.
