From: Luis Lavena Date: 2011-09-17T23:58:08+09:00 Subject: [ruby-core:39610] File.realpath and non-existing drive letters Hello, According to the documentation of realpath: * Returns the real (absolute) pathname of _pathname_ in the actual * filesystem not containing symlinks or useless dots. And: * All components of the pathname must exist when this method is * called. Which results on success for: >> File.realpath "C:/Windows" => "C:/Windows" And exception for: >> File.realpath "C:/Foo" Errno::ENOENT: No such file or directory - C:/Foo But for single drive letters, it doesn't result on anything (M: drive do not exists on my system). >> File.realpath "C:" => "C:" >> File.realpath "M:" => "M:" >> File.realpath "M:/" => "M:/" >> File.realpath "M:." => "M:" >> File.realpath "M:/." => "M:/" >> File.realpath "M:/.." => "M:/" Which might indicate that drive letter is not a required component of the pathname, as established before in the documentation. Should this be considered a bug or a platform limitation? Thank you. -- Luis Lavena AREA 17 - Perfection in design is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but rather when there is nothing more to take away. Antoine de Saint-Exupry
