That's exactly what I'd like symbols to be: a frozen string. Maybe 
frozen objects could be implemented so that comparing them would be as 
fast as comparing symbols currently is.

Then it would be just a matter of defining :symbol as a syntax sugar for 
'symbol'.freeze. Too simple for beginners too.
