The fix will be in OpenBSD 5.0, released in November. I recommend not making any changes. Now that the code works on OpenBSD, I don't see the point of adding an exception to support older versions. OpenBSD users are strongly encouraged to upgrade every 6 months when a new version is released, so there won't be that many people running < 5.0 a year from now.
