Unless they don't *specifically* mean 'git' ... In the context of replacing svn, a 'git' advocate probably is just a DVCS advocate, just like we 'google' for things instead of 'searching' for them, even considering Yahoo!, Bing, etc. With all due respect, non-git DVCS fans sometimes are too quick to suggest that their favorite VCS has been left out for reasons other than just plain convenience. I understand this. But, if I had to mention every DVCS out there every time I wanted to explain the differences between svn and "something else" ... > > I'm not against it, but I don't think that having a similar > > command set is a good enough reason for using that instead of the > > much popular git... >=20 > Well, obviously *you* wouldn't, because you've already taken the > time to learn git and learn to deal with its pitfalls and > idiosyncrasies. I wouldn't want regular Ruby contributors to waste time learning other DVCS's when they can work on my favorite programming language... ;) > As far as popularity goes, http://wiki.bazaar.canonical.com/WhoUsesBzr I found only one occurrence of the word 'Ruby' on that page. Github on the other hand speaks for itself. If you believe bzr is worth considering, maybe try maintaining a bazar mirror of Ruby for a while (like shyouhei's ruby on github). Bazar to me suggests Launchpad - and that suggests Ubuntu. Maybe you could leverage that to help with debian Ruby package maintenance? Or, at the very least, help more bzr/Launchpad users to contribute? Just a thought.
