I did not intend to not consider VC compatibility.

I just wonder what a developer who does not want to be compatible with
VC (maybe because the feature does not exist or is not possible with
VC. e.g.: passenger, unicorn) should do to ignore that warning/error.

A warning is fine, and hopefully will encourage developers to make
their code compatible.

I was just writing to the bson_ext maintainer, so I want to help you.
