Oh, now I see that I misread what you were saying. When you mentioned pselect() I thought that you meant that would have solved your problem but you couldn't use it for some reason. Now I realize that you meant that you need to handle system calls other than select(), and so pselect() alone is not enough. It also doesn't help that this code is written to work on a multi-process environment where threads are forbidden. Since your code is thread-centric, it would take some work to adapt, or perhaps it's downright impossible.
