[#31843] Garbage Collection Question — Asher <asher@...>

This question is no doubt a function of my own lack of understanding, but I think that asking it will at least help some other folks see what's going on with the internals during garbage collection.

Right - so how does a pointer ever get off the stack?

I very much appreciate the response, and this is helpful in describing the narrative, but it's still a few steps behind my question - but it may very well have clarified some points that help us get there.

You have introduced something called a "root node" without defining it. What do you mean by this?

[ruby-core:31840] [Feature #3740] Missing API removal information in NEWS

Feature #3740: Missing API removal information in NEWS
http://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/show/3740

Author: Jon Forums
Status: Open, Priority: Normal
Category: doc

NEWS for 1.9.2-p0 did not mention that 'rb_str2cstr' and 'STR2CSTR' were removed from include/ruby/ruby.h Although 1.7.1 first obsoleted these and the removal is documented in the 1.9.2-p0 Changelog, it would be convenient if future NEWS would summarize the APIs that have been removed from a specific release.

Perhaps adding something similar to a "Deprecated/Removed API" section to the existing "Compatibility issues" NEWS section.

Jon
