From: Yui NARUSE Date: 2010-07-21T20:23:12+09:00 Subject: [ruby-core:31402] [Feature #3595][Rejected] Theres no encoding to differentiate a stream of Binary data from an 8-Bit ASCII string Issue #3595 has been updated by Yui NARUSE. Status changed from Open to Rejected For octet stream, use ASCII-8BIT; it means ASCII compatible octet string. If it is not ASCII compatible, we can't write simply like "\x00\x00".force_encoding("ASCII-8BIT") == "\x00". So it is intentional that the name 'ASCII-8BIT' contains the term 'ASCII'. ---------------------------------------- http://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/show/3595 ---------------------------------------- http://redmine.ruby-lang.org
