Comments #9 and #10 on that page link to patches and claim that they
work. Do they? Does the problem happen with the 1.9.2 and 1.9.3
branches? If you can post a working patch against 1.9.2 here, it might
help.

Generally the core devs (of which I am not one) like to make changes
in the latest branch and backport from there to previous releases.
