Whoever takes over as maintainer should include alternative implementers 
in decision-making to make sure nothing like 1.8.7 happens. I will 
volunteer my time to help with that process from a JRuby angle.

I think we'd all be served well by ensuring that 1.8.6 remains strong 
and stable and consistent across implementations.
