I agree.

I'm also pretty sure we have a lot more voices in this thread saying  
"this is scary" than we do "this is smart."  I've seen multiple  
recommendations in the wild to avoid 1.8.7 altogether.

I really think we need to take a step back and think about how we got  
here and if we are getting the right reactions.  In other words, is  
this healthy for Ruby that so many disapprove of the 1.8.7 and 1.8.8  
releases?
