From: Andrew Walrond Date: 2009-02-11T02:35:13+09:00 Subject: [ruby-core:21958] ruby 1.9.1 parallel make race Hello list, Nice work on 1.9.; I've just starting porting my stuff across and like it very much. I've noticed intermittent build failures when doing a parallel make (make -j4) of 1.9.1. It looks like a race between creating a directory and copying files into it: mkdir -p ../../.ext/common/openssl cp ../.././ext/openssl/lib/openssl/cipher.rb ../../.ext/common/openssl mkdir: cannot create directory `../../.ext/common/openssl': File exists make[1]: *** [../../.ext/common/openssl] Error 1 Looking at the build log, I see other places where the same thing might happen. See here mkdir -p ../../.ext/include/ruby mkdir -p ../../.ext/common/digest cp ../.././ext/digest/lib/digest/hmac.rb ../../.ext/common/digest cp ../.././ext/digest/lib/digest.rb ../../.ext/common cp ../.././ext/digest/digest.h ../../.ext/include/ruby and here mkdir -p ../../.ext/common/dl cp ../.././ext/dl/lib/dl/cparser.rb ../../.ext/common/dl And here is another failure which happened as I was typing: mkdir -p ../../.ext/common/ripper cp ../.././ext/ripper/lib/ripper/core.rb ../../.ext/common/ripper mkdir: cannot create directory `../../.ext/common/ripper': File exists I guess this will be easy enough to fix, if it hasn't been already. I could get setup with the latest source repo and attempt a patch if it would be useful; Let me know. Andrew Walrond
