I know the version boundary is not absolute, but I would very much like to try to keep as much of significant language- and syntax changes as possible in 1.9. But, more importantly, why not just use 1.9? The faster everyone migrates, the better. If there are any deficiencies in 1.9, your (and others') energies would be better spent there than trying to backport changes into 1.8. Eero -- Magic is insufficiently advanced technology.
