win vista, visual studio c++ express 2008 sp1
configure.bat completes, nmake fails at about line 102 on the mt.exe:  couldn't find a ref to this in the forum/ bugs list.  If there, please excuse this dupe.
nmake's MT.exe fails with general error C101 008D, "failed to write the updated manifest to the resource of the file miniruby.exe. The binary is is not a valid windows image", nmake fatal error U1077, return code 0x1F
