I'm not Matz, but I would say that an official git mirror of the svn repository is a necessary first step to begin a possible transition to the new vcs. As has already been mentioned in this discussion, switching to a different vcs is not something you do snapping your finger, so there has to be a transition period where the new one is nothing more than a mirror of the old one. -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta
