Subject: New tests

I was looking through the new test/ruby/* stuff just now, and notices 
that the code did

   assert( 1+2 == 3)

rather than

   assert_equal(3, 1+2)

In general, wouldn't it be better to do the latter, so that we get 
meaningful error messages?
