In my cygwin environment, trunk version works fine.

   # uname -a
   CYGWIN_NT-5.1 xp01 1.5.25(0.156/4/2) 2007-12-14 19:21 i686 Cygwin
   # ruby -v -e 'puts 1'
   ruby 1.9.0 (2007-12-24 revision 0) [i386-cygwin]
   1
