From: "Wolfgang Nádasi-Donner" Date: 2007-12-16T00:46:51+09:00 Subject: RDoc (Ruby 1.8) and RDoc (Ruby 1.9) generate different number of files for same directory Hi! I build Ruby 1.9 from yesterday night snapshot in a subdirectory named "build" of the extracted snapshot, which is in directory "ruby". I use "--program-suffix=19" in "configure". In addition I have "OneClickInstaller 186-25" installed on my Notebook. Then I used two commands (Windows2000) to generate the Ruby 1.9 HTML-RDoc documentation, in one case I used RDoc of Ruby 1.8, in the other RDoc of the build Ruby 1.9. The commands were both given in the "Ruby" directory as the working directory: rdoc --op rdoc18 rdoc --op rdoc19 I used the patch described in ruby-core 14105 for the Ruby 1.9 RDoc. After recognizing that they produced a different number of files, I build a small program to compare the generated directory structures (filenames cannot be compared, because they contain generated names). The result was: 10426 files and directories produced by 'rdoc' for Ruby 1.8 1399 directories produced by 'rdoc' for Ruby 1.8 10418 files and directories produced by 'rdoc' for Ruby 1.9 1399 directories produced by 'rdoc' for Ruby 1.8 ***** List of different directories, produced bei 'RDoc' of 'Ruby 1.8' ./classes/BigDecimal.src contains 50 files (including subdirectories) ./classes/Kernel.src contains 56 files (including subdirectories) ./classes/Module.src contains 61 files (including subdirectories) ./classes/String.src contains 122 files (including subdirectories) ***** List of different directories, produced bei 'RDoc' of 'Ruby 1.9' ./classes/BigDecimal.src contains 45 files (including subdirectories) ./classes/Kernel.src contains 55 files (including subdirectories) ./classes/Module.src contains 60 files (including subdirectories) ./classes/String.src contains 121 files (including subdirectories) Later I will build a small program to compare the contents of the files independant of their names, to find out what happend there. If somebody knows what happend, and why, it would be nice to send an answer to this post, because then it will not be necessary to build the program and go into further analysis.
