Well ... I run it on a 1.3 GHz Athlon T-bird, so it must be something in 
your configuration. Questions:

1. How long ago? They've made lots of improvements over the years and 
are currently shipping 4.2.

2. Windows or Linux? I run it on Linux, so I can't say how well it works 
on Windows.

3. How much RAM? I'm guessing your processor is fine, but you might not 
have enough RAM, especially if you've got lots of other stuff going on. 
On Linux, watch out for Thunderbird and even Firefox. Komodo shares some 
Mozilla code with them. And Thunderbird can be a real memory hog -- I've 
had to shut it down at times even in a GB of RAM.

4. If all else fails, install the latest trial version and post your 
issues on the forum. Unless you just need to de-frag your disk or buy 
more RAM, you'll probably either get some diagnostic help or find a bug 
for them. :)
