I am now a little bit confused. It was 100% understandable for me, that method String#each was removed. The elements of a string are characters and not lines, and Ruby strings didn't care about the underlying encoding. This is no longer valid, because the methods of class String now take care about the encoding (I've got the infomation by RSS from http://eigenclass.org/hiki/Changes-in-Ruby-1.9-update-7). I think this is a wonderful basis for a String#each method, which yields each character of the String object. In addition it makes real sense to include module Enumerable again. Are there some plans related to this, or will String#each and module Enumerable disappear forever from class String? :-( Wolfgang Ndasi-Donner
