Issue #17473 has been updated by matz (Yukihiro Matsumoto). Regarding the original proposal, I'd accept making Pathname built-in, considering its wide accepting among the community, especially with Rails. Whether to keep the built-in Pathname in the C implementation or implement it in Ruby is left for future discussion.
